Andrew Simpkins, ATC
DME Coordinator
Developed by Andrew Simpkins, the Durable Medical Equipment program at California Sports and Orthopaedic Institute, provides patients with the opportunity to receive their braces and slings during the same visit in which they see their physician, allowing our Cal Sports team to more efficiently care for our patients.
CA Board Certified Athletic Trainer, Andrew Simpkins joined the team in 2013 and brings over 10 years of athletic training experience and expertise to the Cal Sports team. Andrew earned his Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Athletic Training/Sports Medicine from San Diego State University in 2008, and returned to the Bay Area where he is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Lifetime Fitness. He has a strong background in therapeutic exercise and manual therapy and is highly skilled in Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF). Andrew holds a national certification by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), and is also a current member of the California Athletic Trainers’ Association (CATA) and Far West Athletic Trainers’ Association (FWATA), and is an American Red Cross CPR/AED/First Aid Professional Rescuer.
Andrew’s background enables him to work closely with physicians and other medical personnel in the development and coordination of efficient and responsive health care. His training equips him with the expertise needed to perform immediate and emergency injury management, pre- and post-operative injury assessment and rehabilitation, the fitting and customizing of Orthotics and Durable Medical Equipment, and crutch fitting/gait training. One of Andrew’s main goals is to reduce the re-injury rate through patient education and instruction for each of the patients he works with. The amount of education and experience he adds is critical in continuing to provide elite patient care.
