I was seen by Dr Zwahlen in 2008 after suffering an injury during soccer practice in which, it turned out, I had torn 3/4 ligaments in my left knee (ACL, PCL & LCL). Having only been in the US for 1 week on my year of study abroad from the UK, it was a truly harrowing experience and not the way I wished to start my life in the US. From the outset, Dr Zwahlen was empathetic, honest, knowledgeable and safety conscious. All things you need when going through a life changing event. He opted for … [Read more...]

I saw Dr. Murthy for a broken bone in my hand that had split in a way that made it unwise to have it heal without screws. I was extremely happy with the care Dr. Murthy took every step of the way. I always felt heard and she took the time to explain everything. The surgery went beautifully as did my healing. My hand works perfectly with several screws in it. Full strength and dexterity regained much faster than I expected and now, a year and a half later I defy anyone to find the surgery scar on … [Read more...]

I needed carpal metacarpal surgery on my hand and had put it off for as long as I could because 1) I had never had surgery and didn't want any and 2) I was a sponsored professional mountain bike rider and rode 7 days a week twice a week as well as run and strength train and didn't want to give that up for recovery. Finally the pain and swelling in my hand effected riding, working out and work. Dr. Murthy was my surgeon and the only thing I can say is WHY DID I WAIT SO LONG???? The surgery was … [Read more...]

Dr. Zwahlen has replaced both of my knees and one hip. There were also some revisions to a badly injured knee. I recently had an opportunity to visit Machu Picchu in Peru. I’ve never been much of a hiker, but the doctor convinced me that I could do it. So I did! There were 8,000 feet of elevation, uneven stone steps with no railings and absolutely stunning views. High adventure for a 70-year-old patient. Dr. Zwahlen’s optimism is contagious. — Carol M. … [Read more...]

Dr. Zwahlen, this is a fan letter. We never heard tell of a surgeon who advises against surgery, till we met you, that is. Seriously, we were both impressed with your cautious approach to Nathan’s “bone on bone” hip condition; recommending Celebrex instead of hip replacement. From the first pill, he has been completely pain free, still walking 2 miles several days a week now and minus the aches when lying in bed. Piggybacking on his success, I was prescribed Celebrex by my primary doctor and the … [Read more...]

I can highly recommend Dr. C.R. Strotz. Granted, my experience with him was for internal fractures and two torn ligaments in my knee, not ankle, after an accident, but I would imagine he does ankles very well too. He has truly deep experience, is very patient, knowledgeable, gentle, and willing to explain. He can help you evaluate options, and has the solid and effective reputation that caring for the Cal Bears’ injuries for years brings (being female and not a huge sports person, I still felt … [Read more...]

I have the utmost respect for Dr. Zwahlen and Dr. Roghair. I really feel they are working to achieve excellence. They are not just incredibly talented and skilled physicians; I know that they care and wanted the very best for the their patients. Now I am looking forward to again riding a bike, which I haven’t been able to do for years. I want to thank you for the way you have been handling my broken fibula. Although this routine fracture must be a ho-hum issue for a surgeon, Dr. Zwahlen, you … [Read more...]

Dr . Roghair, thank you so much for draining Paul’s knee. He said it is doing great and he is back at playing baseball for the Walnut Creek Crawdads. We are scheduled to follow up with an orthopedist when he gets home. The weather here in South Dakota is very humid-Ca. Weather is much nicer. Thank you again for helping Paul. — Jacobson … [Read more...]
